Someone got access to our account numbers and pin codes, and withdrew $6000 pesos from our account yesterday morning.

We called the bank and they cancelled the ATM cards and noted that whoever it was had made numerous inquiries as to the balance and tried to use the card several additional times in Guadalajara. The bank is monitoring our account now and they will refund our money but someone was still trying to use it as of today. Obviously something is going on because there are a number of reports about the ATM machines in town. Scary that they somehow had the PIN code....

Update 11.07 He managed to lose it that day - he said he put it into the Banamex one first (walmart) but it wouldn't work, so he took it out and tried the Bancomer one, which DID work but he forgot to remove the card and there it sat until god knows who fished it out. He of course checked back with customer service at Walmart the second he realized it was missing, but no one had turned it in. So it is hard to say whether the "reading" of it took place somehow within the Banamex machine, the Bancomer machine, or some lucky thief just happened upon it and took it when Jose left it there by accident.
