Homeowner

Homeowner Present: No
Entry: Scaled the wall at the side
Deterrents:

All except about 30 inches of the wall is covered by virtually impenetrable bougambia. They scaled the wall at that short area not covered.

Future deterrents We are having barbed wire to cover the exposed area at the side and are having spikes placed on the front wall.
Amount Stolen: approximately $2000
Description:  I assume that the house was being cased. My wife usually walks our dogs, but because she is visiting family, I have been walking the dogs. When I left in the car, I think that they knew that there was no body at home. We have 2 little dogs, but they are very friendly and I found them shut up in the bedroom. I had recently bought a 27 inch iMac which weighs over 30 lbs. They took that plus a 4 year old laptop that was also sitting on my desk. Except for a cloth bag which I assume they took to carry the laptop, nothing else was taken, even an iPod that was sitting visibly only a few feet away. They did not take the wireless keyboard or mouse either. I think there had to be 2 persons to take the computer over the wall.
Police Called: I was unable to get to the Chapala police. I used the emergency number and was transferred briefly to someone who spoke English, but was cut off very early. I did report and show where the thieves got in to the La Floresta security who said that they would make a report. I haven't followed up on that.
Ministerio:  I did go to the Ministerio. The employee was most unhelpful. When I asked for someone who could speak English (I am studying Spanish but still have limited vocabulary), he said no and said that I would have to return with someone who could speak Spanish. I asked if there was a form, because I can read more Spanish than I can converse. Again, he said that there was nothing and I had to return with someone who speaks Spanish.
Comments: I have been remiss in not noting the proper numbers to call the police. The Telmex telephone directory is not helpful at all. I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to contact the Chapala police.
