| Description: | Left house at approximately 5:30 p.m. for routine afternoon trip to Chapala. Returned just before 8:00 p.m. to find double-doors jimmeyed, with deadbolt still in armed/extended position. No damage to doors, just a weakness in design. Intruders had to have jumped over high wall to enter these doors, which are only accessible within the internal garden area. The pedestrian gates from street to garden and automobile gates were untouched. Intruders ransacked the house and found keys to a key-access-only door that has street access. They left through that door with a 40 inch plasma tv, dvd player, Apple Macbook Pro 15 inch, a digital camera and about $100 in U.S. cash; also left with remote control for the piston driven driveway gates. |
|||
| Physical Harm: | These were very respectful robbers. They even closed the doors behind them. (Possibly so my cat couldn't get out?) They left all the TV connections, the remote control and didn't damage any of the complicated electrical connections. | |||
| Police Called: | Yes. Police were called by my wonderful neighbors and many cars showed up very quickly. La Floresta security was called, but there was no answer. One of the HOA volunteer officials arrived within minutes and was very helpful. |

Report Filed |
I filed a report, but they told me that I need to go back tomorrow to finish it up at another office. Not quite sure why, but I was pleased with the police response and the courtesy at the police headquarters. My neighbors, who had an attempted break in yesterday also filed a report. **** Update 8/13 - Just returned from the Ministerio where my neighbor did file a report. Oddly, they told me to return on monday to do mine. Very tedious process. |

| Comments: | Our collective hunch is that someone associated with the construction project just adjacent to the Chapala Real Hotel is responsible for these break ins. From their 3rd story perch, they can watch our entire comings and goings. My neighbors' break in occurred just before work hours and mine occurred just after work hours. They could easily see that we had left our homes and observe any activity on the street. We told the police this and they plan on visiting them tomorrow. | |||
