Riberas de Pilar - Theft of Personal Items

Date: Over the last six weeks as of December 20, 2011
Type: Theft of Personal Items by Maid
Source: Homeowner
Location: Lower Riberas
Amount Stolen: Several Thousand Dollars
Recovered: Not completely - did have to pay to get some merchandise back and decided one piece wasn't worth the money.
Deterrents:

Trusted maid hunted for my jewelry & found it.  When I discovered it, my Mexican friend who knew her confronted her & she confessed.  I had to pay to get one piece from the gold-buyer she pawned the item with in Jocotopec but didn't retrieve the pieces from the same type of place in Chapala where she had pawned the other places.
I told her that if she got the expensive earring back within 3 days I would not report her to Ministerio Publico.  She did.  She has a small child & is pregnant (which I didn't know) & did not want her jailed at Christmas.

Comments: She did not have a key but I left her alone in the house which is heavily barred.  I had lent her money twice to prevent this sort of thing happening.  Never again!  I will not allow any future maid to be in the house alone again & all valuables will be locked in a room she will not have access to while she cleans.
